Interest Areas
I believe that having a therapist who takes the time to listen, gently enquire and develop a shared understanding with you leads to better outcomes.
In session, I aim to be warm, engaging and create an environment where you feel safe and supported to address any challenges you may be facing. My approach involves taking the time to build trust and rapport, whilst assisting you to gain powerful new perspectives, develop new skills, and harness your own individual strengths.
I have over 14 years of experience as a clinical psychologist working across a range of settings including hospitals, community mental health teams, older persons’ mental health services, rehabilitation services, executive leadership teams, and private practice. Such opportunities have afforded me the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan with a diverse range of issues and unique circumstances.
To me, it is important to treat everyone as an individual and draw upon my clinical experience and training in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Metacognitive Therapy, and Mindfulness to tailor an evidence-based approach that is right for you.
I have a particular interest in working with people experiencing:
Ageing-related issues
Adjusting to cognitive changes including dementia & brain injury
Chronic pain
PTSD and trauma
Adjustment disorder
Bipolar affective disorder
Depression
Obsessive-Compulsive disorder
Anxiety, stress, and worry
I am passionate about psychology as a profession, and I have clinically supervised many post-graduate students, registrars, and experienced psychologists. I have also contributed to curriculum development in a range of psychology/mental health courses and training programs, and have held a Clinical Senior Lecturer title with the University of Adelaide. I believe that is important to keep up to date with the latest developments in psychological research to ensure that I am delivering the best possible service for the people I work with.
Although Shane is currently not accepting new clients, he is actively involved in training and supervising the team to ensure the highest quality of care for Willow Tree clients.
