Interest Areas

I have now worked in the area of child, adolescent, and youth psychology for over 10 years in both the public and private sectors. My approach is collaborative and utilises a systems-based and attachment-based approach, involving family as much as possible where this is appropriate for clients. As a team, we can then work to build a toolbox of skills to deal with the challenges being faced.

I work from an evidence-based approach and utilise primarily; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) frameworks. I have also been trained in a parenting program called Tuning Into Kids, which focuses on helping parents support children with their emotional regulation, and build emotional resilience.

Often the key to good therapy is a good relationship with your therapist. I like working and connecting with young people, making sessions interesting and fun, and will adapt concepts to match their understanding. In this way, we can help make sense of the issues they face in a developmentally appropriate way, and support appropriate coping strategies.

I have a particular interest in working with the following presentations:

  • Anxiety, Fears, Phobias
  • Behavioural concerns
  • Bullying
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Family relationship difficulties
  • Grief, loss and trauma
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Parenting issues
  • Selective Mutism
  • Social and emotional difficulties
  • Stress management
